Brian Rose defends his gold successfully and avenges his previous loss from Max Maxwell - Boxing News
Brian Rose, the current British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) light middleweight champion, successfully defended his gold and avenged his career’s only loss after collecting a unanimous decision win over fellow countryman Max Maxwell, in a 12-round skirmish
held on March 31, 2012.
The ring for the bout-stacked pay-per-view was stretched at Winter Gardens situated in Blackpool, Lancashire, United Kingdom and the event was organised and promoted by the duo of Frank Maloney of Maloney Promotions and Steve Wood of VIP Promotions.
Brian-Max bout headlined the event and the non-title six-round bout between Rick Godding and Martin Welsh co-headlined the Saturday night show which was televised on Sky TV.
Brian, 27, was entering in his third title defence bout and boasted 18 wins out of a total 20 skirmishes. The surging Briton collected just one loss in his career from the fists of Max Maxwell.
Rose, widely known as ‘The Lion’, is ranked number two in his country’s rankings and is not considered as a powerful knockout pounder, the reason why he has collected just five wins via knockout.
His Saturday night opponent entered the ring with a huge psychological advantage. Max, 32, though sits far in the rankings yet was successful to nail Brian in his first encounter. The win was an emphatic one since Max annihilated Brian and knocked his senses
out in just the sixth round.
Max completely understood the potential Brian had. In addition, Maxwell, infamous as the ‘Mad Max’, was entering in his career’s 29th bout. Max does not possess an impressive win percentage. He has lost 11 of his total bout and won just 15. Moreover, Max
was a far worse pounder than Brian.
Max’s all these deficiencies urged Brian to stand up again and avenge his previous defeat and the Liverpool proud Brian did do so by collecting an impressive unanimous decision in his favour.
All the three judges unanimously allocated 110-119, 111-119, and 110-119 to Brian, officially denoting him as the proud winner and still the incumbent BBBC light middleweight champion.
After the bout, the excited Brian shared his thoughts and said, “I was being a bit macho at times and it was hard not to because of what he did to me last time. I wanted to prove I could stand there. I shouldn’t have done it but I’ve come through the fight
and I will learn from it. But Max is very tough. I was surprised how strong he was. The last time he cut it short and knocked me out in the sixth. This time I had to do the full 12.”
Brian now has 19 wins and is now recuperating from possible bout injuries. On the other hand, his promoter Frank Maloney has said that he wants his boy Brian to undergo one more title defence bout this year. Max has unfortunately collected second loss in
his last five bouts.
