Brian Rose expects Somerset to improve their performance: English County Championship Division One 2011
Director of Somerset Cricket, Brian Rose, has said that he is expecting his team to do better in the County Championship Division One 2011. Somerset started the season as favourites but they have lost their opening two fixtures
quite badly and are currently reeling at the last position in the points table with only seven points.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rose-c86842 feels that some of the individuals in the team have done well in the opening two games but cricket is a team game and Somerset has lacked a good team effort which is needed to dismantle good teams.
He said, "While some individuals have done okay, people like (Steve) Kirby and (Charl) Willoughby, we haven't collectively batted or bowled well in the first two championship games and that is the first thing that we have got to get over."
Rose also expressed his disappointment at the lack of application by his batsmen and wants them to concentrate more on occupying the crease rather than throwing away their wickets in unnecessary plays.
He said that his batsmen have lost their wickets in a similar fashion in both the matches so far which is unlike the manner in which Somerset has played its cricket since last couple of seasons. "We need to show more self-determination in our batting whatever
the game situation is and that is what we have talked about and what we are aiming to achieve. Both of our championship games so far have contained similar aspects in that there have been run-outs going for the fourth run and stumpings, things that you don't
really associate with the way that we have played over the last two or three years,” Rose added.
Somerset will be up against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Trescothick-c1898 and his men would love to win in order fight back in the points table.
Somerset has announced the 12 players from which the playing eleven will be picked and the management will be hoping that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 Mendis can show some magic against Hampshire.
