Brian Rose nails Kris Carslaw to defend BBBC British light middleweight title – Boxing News
Brian Rose, the current BBBC British light middleweight champion, performed impressively well for the Manchester boxing fans, outpointing his Saturday night opponent Kris Carslaw to defend his title for the fourth consecutive time, in a 12-round bout held
on June 2, 2012.
The above duo headlined the pay-per-view jointly organised and promoted by Frank Maloney of Maloney Promotions and Steve Wood of VIP Promotions. The ring for the showdown was set up at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom.
The show was televised live on Sky TV and had Rick Godding and James Flinn take on each other in an eight-round non-title clash in the co-main event of the pay-per-view.
Rose, 27, was entering career’s 22nd bout, boasting 19 wins. The Briton proud has nailed just five opponents by knockout. He is not a power puncher but is a resilient fighter who can create ring upsets fairly well.
Also known as The Lion, Brian was on a five-bout win streak since his one and only career loss to Max Maxwell. Rose grabbed his BBBC light middleweight gold in a bout against Lee Noble and has since defended it successfully against Martin Welsh, Prince Arron,
and Max Maxwell.
His Saturday night opponent Kris was slightly overshadowed by Rose’s experience, win and knockout ratio. Carslaw, also 27, was entering his career’s 17th bout, exhibiting just 15 wins.
The Scottish hailing belligerent has nailed just three opponents by knockout and to some critics was an easy target for the surging Rose. Unexpectedly, right from the beginning Kris started off tough and did not give much space to Rose to nail him.
Brian was stunned every now and then by Kris’ jabs, whereas Carslaw also absorbed Rose’s powerful body and face shots. Things changed when in the second round Kris received a big cut on the forehead.
The cut was deep and devastating, leaving Kris in angry and frustrated state. Rose easily connected his jabs and collected precious scores at frequent intervals.
Despite the injury, Kris did not lose hope and continued to halt Rose’s movements. The bout ended and all the three designated judges awarded the bout unanimously to Brian by 118-112, 116-113, and 115-114 scores.
At the end of the bout, even Rose admitted that Kris is a unique and dangerous brawler, “[Kris is] the most awkward fighter I’ve ever met or ever boxed. He’s hard to pin down.” While sharing his thoughts Rose further added, “When he got the cut, it knocked
him.”
With this win, Brian has defended his title for the fourth time in a row and now has 20 wins in his account. Kris, on the other hand, has received his second career loss.
