Brian Schottenheimer joins St. Louis Rams as franchise’s new offensive coordinator – NFL News Update
St. Louis Rams’ recently appointed head coach, Jeff Fisher, announced on Monday, January 23, 2012, that the franchise has hired former New York Jets’ offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, to serve the Rams in the same capacity.
Soon after joining the Rams, Fisher has been looking to formulate a team of coaching staff that should share his vision.
There were unconfirmed reports last week about Brian’s hiring, but the management has now officially confirmed the news.
“I am really excited to have Brian join our staff,” Fisher said. “He is a well respected coach in this league who has had success for many years at a high level as an offensive coordinator. We share the same philosophies on the offensive side of the ball
and I think he is a tremendous addition to our staff.”
Brian, 38, started his professional coaching career in 1997.
He served as assistant coach for the Rams (1997), Kansas City Chiefs (1998), Syracuse Orange (1999) and USC Trojans (2000). He joined Washington Redskins in 2001 and spent a year with the franchise as quarterbacks’ coach.
In 2002, he joined San Diego Chargers and worked as assistant and quarterbacks’ coach until 2005.
His next destination was New York where he joined the Jets as offensive coordinator in 2006.
During his tenure, the Jets registered two appearances (2009 and 2010) in the American Football Conference (AFC) championship game.
In the present regular season of the National Football League (NFL), the Jets won and lost eight games respectively and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Following the failure, his terms with Jets’ head coach, Rex Ryan, got stained. Brian decided not to return to the Jets for the year 2012, but different reports suggested that the Jets also did not want to bring him back for the next season.
After spending six years with the Jets, he has now joined the Rams.
Brian’s joining might be helpful for the Rams, who are desperately in need of revamping their tarnished image after a miserable season in which the team could only win two games.
With Brian’s experience, the Rams’ offensive line will also get a much needed support.
