Brian Shaw reportedly inclining toward the head coaching position with Orlando Magic – NBA News
The hunt for a new coach is on in the NBA with the Charlotte Bobcats leading the pact. After a dismal regular season in which the Bobcats finished with the worst record in NBA history, they did not offer a contract extension to
their former coach and instead went on the hunt for a new one.
The hunt saw them interview 10 prospective coaches before short listing three to have a second round of interviews with team owner Michael Jordan. The three shortlisted coaches were Jerry Sloan, Brian Shaw and Quin Snyder.
Jerry Sloan opted himself out of contention for the job a few days ago, which leaves Brian Shaw and Quin Snyder as the two remaining candidates for the position. Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register has reported that Shaw is
said to be giving preference to a coaching position in Orlando.
“Former Lakers assistant Brian Shaw, who spent the past year as an associate head coach for the Indiana Pacers, is believed to prefer the Orlando Magic head job to the Bobcats’ one,” said Ring.
Brian Shaw was a former assistant coach to Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was tipped to take over the reins after Jackson retired but the Lakers brought in Mike Brown and Shaw went to Indiana, where he was assistant
coach to Frank Vogel the past season and did an amazing job with the Indiana Pacers. Vogel was all praise for Shaw, who is said to be the hottest assistant coach on the market this offseason.
However, Shaw is now said to be eyeing the head coaching position with the Orlando Magic, where he will have the opportunity to coach Dwight Howard. Shaw has been rumoured to be in the running of getting the job with the Magic,
but they want to hire a new General Manager first before they make the decision about the coach. Orlando Magic fired their former coach Stan Van Gundy after the regular season.
If Shaw opts for Orlando, Charlotte will be left with Quin Snyder, who is currently the assistant coach to Mike Brown with the Los Angeles Lakers.
