Brian Stuard and Nick Flanagan share the halfway lead at the Price Cutter Charity Championship
Brian Stuard shared the halfway-point lead on Friday, at the Price Cutter Charity Championship, presented by Dr Pepper, with a second-round 67 at the Highland Springs Country Club.
Stuard managed to sink seven birdies against two bogeys for a five-under par score that vaulted him into the clubhouse lead.
Later in the afternoon, Nick Flanagan also made a charge and surged to the top of the leaderboard with a six-under par second-round score.
Both the players have now a one-stroke lead over Jason Gore and Scott Harrington, with a 12-under par overall score.
According to Stuard, he could have done even better if he had succeeded to play a better game off the tee. He only managed to hit nine fairways and 13 greens in regulation.
Yet, he managed to post a good score on the leaderboard and credited his putter for such a good performance in the end.
"I probably putted a little better today," Stuard said. "The wind definitely makes it trickier. I had to play a little more defensively on a couple of longer shots on par-4s. It's nice to see your name up there but there's still two more rounds".
In the meantime, Flanagan also struggled with his putter and hit only 5 of 14 fairways. Same as Stuard did, he managed to overcome his mistakes with his putter.
Four of his successful putts came from outside the 20-foot mark, including a stunning 35-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole.
"It was definitely erratic off the tee today but I made up for it with a few clutch putts and just kind of got it done out there today," said the 28-year-old Australian. "It wasn't impressive".
"It's stressful at points," he added. "It would be nice to hit it to 10 feet on every hole and just move on but that's how I play sometimes".
Overall, both the players depended on their putters and are likely to do the same in the remaining two rounds because of the presence of strong winds at the venue.
Most of the players were seen struggling off the tee because of the sudden change of wind speed and directions.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the participants will overcome the challenging weather conditions in Missouri.
