Brian Viloria-Omar Nino Romero fight postponed due to non payment of fine by Omar - Boxing News
Brian Viloria, the current World Boxing Organisation (WBO) flyweight champion, who was scheduled to defend his gold in a third encounter with Omar Nino Romero on March 31, 2012, will have to wait a bit more since the bout has been postponed due to Nevada
State Athletic Commission (NSAC) non-compliance, to May 12, 2012.
According to the details, Keith Kizer, executive director NSAC, explained the reason for the postponement of the bout and said that since Nino did not pay the $11,250 fine, the bout cannot be finalised until the amount due is paid by the penalised party.
It must be kept in mind that Nino is still bound to pay the amount and has been avoiding it since his 2006’s last skirmish with Brian. During the post-bout drug test Nino’s sample showed the presence of some prohibited illegal substances that provoked the
regulatory authority to impose a ban and a fine on the former WBC light flyweight champion.
This is the third time that the duo will collide and most probably will put an end to the feud that has generated much rivalry between the two camps. Brian and Nino first stood against each other in a 12-round skirmish in 2006.
Brian was the unfortunate one who not only lost the bout via unanimous decision but also his WBC light flyweight gold. The win did not halt or demoralise Brian and he called on Nino again for a rematch. The bout was epic and the draw decision proved that
both men did really put everything in the bout.
Brian, well known as the ‘Hawaiian Punch’, has been in a total 35 bouts and lost just three. He has collected 17 of his wins by knockout. In a brief interview, while sharing his thoughts about the delay, Brian said, “I've been through these changes before.
I've just got to continue with the training and keep grinding.”
On explaining the reason behind the lag, Keith said, “I continue to wait patiently. I expected the money already. I don't know what the holdup is. Just pay the money. (Nino) fought for the WBC several times and I tried to collect but they kept saying, 'There's
nothing we can do.' But with the WBO, it was no problem. They said right away that they would not sanction the fight until he paid and the Filipino commission was also helpful.”
The bout will now take place on May 12, 2012 and the ring will be stretched at Ynares Sports Arena situated in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Omar, 35, has been in a total 38 bouts and emerged victorious in 31. He has collected just 13 wins by KO
and will not be a threat to Brian if the latter uses his jabs and moves wisely.
