Brian Viloria believes Manny Pacquiao can beat Juan Manuel Marquez with aggression – Boxing News
Former WBO champion Manny Pacquiao is training hard in the Wild Card Gym for his fourth fight against Mexican ring legend Juan Manuel Marquez. Joining him at the sparring sessions was WBO flyweight titleholder Brian Viloria, who has tasted glory along with
Manny Pacquiao. Viloria won his first title when Pacquiao knocked out Hector Velasquez. Both fighters shared the same gym for a couple of years.
Now, Viloria is back at the Wild Card Gym and he is excited to see Pacquiao training there. The Filipino pride will face Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Viloria, who has trained with Pacquiao, is probably the best person to comment on the Filipino’s chances of defeating the Mexican. According to Viloria, the only way Pacquiao can beat Marquez is by bringing he aggression back to the ring.
“He just has to bring back that old Manny Pacquiao, that old in-and-out, just that aggressive fighter,” said Viloria in an interview with The Ring. “I think the last couple of fights, [Pacquiao] has been fighting a little too passive and letting Marquez
dictate the pace a little too much. I think the way he's settled down on his punches, he gives Marquez a little bit more of an anticipation in his step.”
Pacquiao has fought Marquez thrice, winning two times and drawing the match once. This time, however, Pacquiao is the one under pressure as he is coming off a controversial loss to unbeaten American fighter Timothy Bradley.
In order to score a super-fight against WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr, Pacquiao needs a convincing win over Marquez.
Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, has already iterated that the Filipino is looking for a knockout win over Marquez, but it will not be that easy. Marquez is in form and he is looking forward to defeat the Filipino by hook or by crook. According to Marquez,
this time the referee will raise his hand as the victor.
For now, Viloria believes defeating Marquez is not a difficult task for Pacquiao, only if the Filipino plays aggressive, the way he used to in his days of glory.
