Brian Viloria to defend WBO flyweight title against arch rival Omar Nino Romero – Boxing News
Brian Viloria, the current WBO flyweight champion, will defend his title for the second consecutive time against the Mexican Omar Nino Romero, the former WBC light flyweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held on May 13, 2012.
The above duo will headline ‘Island Assault 4: The Battle’ pay-per-view which is being promoted by Fernando Beltran of Promociones Zanfer, Elmer T. Anuran of Saved by the Bell Promotions, Paolo Diaz of Elite Promotions, Naris Singwangcha of Singwangcha
Promotions and Jason O. Soong of Planet Jupiter Promotions.
The Sunday night show will be co-headlined by the WBO Oriental bantamweight championship bout between Dayer Gabutan and Dado Cabintoy and the ring for the extravaganza will be set up at Ynares Sports Arena situated in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
The bout between Brain and Omar will definitely be an interesting one since the duo share an interesting history and this will be the third time that both men will stand against each other.
In one of the first two bouts, Omar outclassed Brian and grabbed a win whereas in the other he failed the drug test as a result the decision was revised to No Contest.
The duo recently met at the final pre-bout press conference and shared their thoughts about the upcoming engagement. Brian, 31, has been in a total 35 bouts and emerged victorious in 30.
He has nailed 17 of his opponents by knockout and is on a continuous four-bout win streak since his last loss to Carlos Tamara. Moreover, Viloria, also known as the ‘Hawaiian Punch’, recently collected a huge win over Julio Cesar Miranda and grabbed the
WBO flyweight title.
His opponent, Omar, 35, has been in a total 38 bouts and boasts 31 wins with just 13 of them via knockout. Widely known as ‘The Giant Killer’, Omar recently lost his WBC light flyweight title to Gilberto Keb Baas in the third title defence bout.
Since then he has just entered the ring once and collected an impressive third round knockout win over emerging rookie Javier Romano. During the press conference, Brian vowed to avenge his prior loss to Omar and stated, “I really, really trained myself very
hard for this fight. This is personal on my part....This is it. This third fight is happening because it gives me an opportunity to bounce back from the first two fights!”
Omar, on the other hand, just uttered a one-liner and commented, “He has turned into a great fighter.” The bout will definitely be a classic and toe-to-toe one since both men are not only high-calibre pugilists but also boast wins over many big names and
reside at respectable positions in world rankings.
