Brian Wilson in good touch as Spring Training debut goes well
If there’s one thing the San Francisco Giants want this season, it’s Brian Wilson to be on top of his form. The bullpen ace is still in the mix with the club and his Closer role isn’t about to change anytime soon.
The team is hard at work in Scottsdale, Arizona. In a recent exhibition game in the Cactus League, Wilson made his debut in Spring Training. The World Series winning Closer was still in his prime as he took down the Seattle Mariners.
The Cactus League game provided a preview of Wilson’s determination for the new season. It didn’t look like Brian needed more time to recuperate from a back injury. The All–Star Closer made his efforts count as he went into the game, taking out three hitters
in his first stint on the mound. The Giants made short work of the Mariners as they went on to beat the competition 6-1.
Wilson had been delayed to appear in the League games as back problems had kept him out.
However, Brian was performing on top of the charts as he looked ready to take the regular season challenge to the next level.
"We had all the confidence Willie was fine", Giants manager, Bruce Bochy, said.
Wilson made short work of Dustin Ackley, Adam Kennedy and Milton Bradley, who have been on the press headlines for both, right and wrong reasons. Wilson talked about the occasion after he pitched a perfect fifth innings against the Mariners.
"It feels awesome every time", Wilson said. "Pitching never gets boring".
The fans were ecstatic as Wilson was expected to come into the game. The supporters view him as the back-bone of the franchise and it’s only right, given his contribution.
"It felt good. Felt really good", he said of the fan reaction. "I felt honoured to be in a Giants uniform. We're talking about a Spring Training game here. I don't think it was 100 percent directed toward me, I was part of the unit that won it all last year".
