Brian Wilson out with inflammation in the elbow – MLB News
San Francisco Giants’ closer Brian Wilson seems to have fallen victim to injury. After losing the game to Atlanta Braves by 5-3, Brian Wilson had to leave the game with inflammation in the right elbow. Dr. James Andrews is reported to have been asked to
go for the initial examination of the Giants’ closer.
This will obviously keep Wilson away from the upcoming games. Although no exact period of time has been announced yet for his absence, the estimates are that it might well be up to three days. But a lot depends on how the closer is feeling right now.
The ailing problem of Wilson, coupled with the Giants loss to the Atlanta Braves, was not good news. However, to avoid any further damage, the team – exercising caution, wants to give the right-hander some rest.
"He just felt a little tenderness," Bochy said. "We're just being cautious. The results came out well. They showed a little inflammation in the elbow, so we're going to give him a couple days off."
Bochy also pointed out to the fact that it was closer himself who wanted it to get checked. "He just wanted to get it checked out by the man who did it," Bochy said. "We didn't want to risk putting him back out there without having it evaluated."
While it is yet not very eminently clear as to how long will it take before Wilson recovers, the head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner is optimistic that it will be sooner than later. Although he is optimistic about it, he does not want to form an early
conclusion.
Once asked when possibly the right-hander can come back, he said, "Brian's one of those guys who has a remarkable ability to recover. So I wouldn't put anything past him. But we need to make sure he's healthy."
If things go the way they are planned with all the optimism tinged with a subtle carefulness, Wilson may take a practice on Friday. Given the importance of the player for the team, all the curiosity surrounding the player becomes understandable.
Having won six games for the San Francisco Giants this season with over 55 games that he has played, Wilson is considered one of the backbones of the team with 3.19 ERA. His team, therefore, looks forward to his early return.
Unable to pitch after the Atlanta Braves’ fiasco and the injury that came his way, however, Wilson has not been able to pitch. It will be interesting to see how he performs on Friday for practice session prior to his appearance in the next games.
