Brian Wilson picks up on San Francisco Giants’ spring training throwing session
The San Francisco Giants are picking up on spring training workout and as the days to the regular season draw nearer, players are building on strength and stamina. One man who’s got the weight of the club on his shoulders happens to be the formidable closer
from the 2010 World Series who put the Texas Rangers out of the competition with his last pitch. Bullpen member Brian Wilson threw his second session for the Giants recently.
Wilson is slated to start his first full squad workout on Wednesday or Friday and he’s working on getting the club to the premier spot in Major League Baseball with his pitches. Wilson is counting on manager Bruce Bochy to dictate his schedule and steps
in the following days as he gets ready for the coming challenge in the National League. Brian has been hampered by a sore back for quite a while. He played catch on Sunday to take the rust off his joints.
“It was a standard pen. It felt good coming out of the hand, a little bit of whip action,” Wilson said. “Good range of motion and everything is fine. Obviously, it’s spring training, so we are taking everything slow. There is no rush. We did just win a World
Series like a week ago."
Brian is working on stretching exercises and he’s taking the most out of the spring training session for a move to strengthen his back for the league season. Wilson is making the most of his opportunity and on Monday, he faced only one batter – Bochy.
"You realise that you are older and you can’t get out of the way like you would like to,” a smiling Bochy said. “With [Wilson] throwing, I just want to make sure I do [move] if it’s heading my way. But he’s got great control. I had confidence that he wasn't
going to hit me.”
The two icons talked to the press after the session. They joked about the experience they had had with each other in the batting cage. Wilson called it intimidating.
