Brianna Throssell conquers Women’s 200m butterfly prelims – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Brianna Throssell of Perth City conquered the qualification rounds of Women’s 200m butterfly on opening day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, September 12.
The 16-year-old Throssell served notice of her talent in the distant butterfly discipline where she smothered efforts of her opponents and emerged on the finishing end as top fastest swimmer.
With her continued efforts, Throssell stayed nearly one body length ahead of her closest challenger and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.08 seconds for first position.
The fastest qualifying swimmer was chased by Amy Smith of St Peters Western Swim Club, who remained 0.73 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade as second position holder by producing a time of 2 minutes and 09.81 seconds.
Smith was followed by Jordan White of Cranbrook, who remained just half a second behind and completed her race in third best qualifying position by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 10.31 seconds.
White was followed by Jackie Staples of Norwood, SA, who remained almost a half body length behind and made her way to the playoff by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 10.72 seconds.
Fifth fastest qualifying spot of the event was followed by Madeline Groves of St Peters Western Swim Club, who was 0.38 seconds apart and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.10 seconds.
The 17-year-old Groves was trailed by Nicole Mee of Cranbrook, who remained 0.42 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 11.52 seconds for sixth place.
Similarly, Mee remained just an inch ahead of Megan Gianotti of Waterworx, QLD, who secured seventh best qualification spot of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 11.58 seconds.
Gianotti was followed by Alanna Bowles of Rocky City, who was 0.80 seconds behind and completed her race in eighth best place by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 12.38 seconds.
Throssell was very happy with her top finish and promised to do the same in playoff.
