Brianna Throssell excels in Women’s 100m butterfly semi-finals – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Brianna Throssell of Perth City excelled in the semi-finals of Women’s 100m butterfly on fourth day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Saturday, September 15.
The 16-year-old Throssell remained marginally ahead of her opponents throughout the discipline and entered the final round as strongest swimmer for gold medal. She showed no mercy to her opponents throughout the discipline and earned her way to the final
round as top contender for title.
With her immaculate efforts, Throssell was just a touch ahead of her closest swimmer and touched the wall with a nice effort of 58.61 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Brittany Elmslie of Nudgee Brothers, who remained 0.26 seconds apart and qualified into the playoff with a wonderful timing of 58.87 seconds.
Elmslie was traced by Nicole Mee of Cranbrook, who stayed 0.25 seconds slower and reached the finishing end as third best finisher by submitting a time of 59.12 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the event was secured by Amy Smith of St Peters Western Swim Club, who suffered a deficit of 0.10 seconds from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 59.22 seconds.
Smith was traced by Jemma Schlicht of Surrey Park, VIC, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower from her former finisher and proved her mettle for fifth best spot of the event by touching the wall with an effort of 59.29 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the event was obtained by Chris Licciardi of Melbourne VIC, who stayed 0.23 seconds apart and posted a time of 59.52 seconds.
Licciardi was traced by Madeline Groves of St Peters Western Swim Club, who was 0.28 seconds slower and secured seventh position of the event by producing a time of 59.80 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was obtained by Megan Gianotti of Waterworx, QLD, who remained 0.02 seconds apart and reported a time of 59.82 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Throssell was delighted with her fastest finish and articulated her desire of continuing the same in the playoff of the butterfly discipline.
