Brianti/Cirstea defeat Klepac/Poutchek in quarter final – Texas Open 2011
Alberta Brianti and Sorana Cirstea defeated Slovenian Andreja Klepac and Belarusian Tatiana Poutchek by surviving a mid match fall in the quarter final to secure a place in the semi final of the Texas Open 2011. The teams were
to duel it out on hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Gravepine, Texas. The Italian and Romaine Duo (Brianti/Cirstea) came out triumphant with a 7-6(2), 6-7(0), 12-10 victory in 1 hour, 54 minutes, and 36 seconds.
Opening the first set both teams had smashed zero aces and had committed double faults but Klepac/Poutchek had one extra double fault that their opponent’s.
In addition, both squads had saved and won the same number of break points, which were 5 out of 8 break points saved and 3/8 break points won, hence, neither got a statistical edge.
Although, it was close shave between the points of the two, Klepac/Poutchek had an excellent serve as they were able to win 50% of their total service points, along with, a better return that won them 51% of total return points.
Brianti/Cirstea had managed to push the set to a tie breaker and thus, bagged the set by accomplishing 41 out of 83 points, making it a 49% win of the total set points.
After failing, the Slovenian and Belarusian were not to give another chance to their adversaries and the second set saw yet another tie break. Not letting history repeat itself, Klepac/Poutchek raced to a 6-0 victory.
Across the board; neither of the players had aced; instead, both had a double fault each. Team Klepac/Poutchek had achieved 54% of their total service points against, the Italian/ Romanian had bagged only 46% of their total returns.
Reviving two strong back hands, along with well placed shots, that enabled the Slovenian/Belarusian to bag an above average 55% of their total return points, while their adversaries had a mediocre 45% win of total return points.
By the end of the second set both the squads had spilt a set each and embarked on a 54 minute super tiebreaker. Brianti/Cirstea closed out on their challengers by gaining 2 more points in the total set score.
The Italian/Romaine duo had perfected their serve and with flawless precision struck zero double faults, however the Slovenian/Belarusian pair again committed one extra double fault, losing a point.
Italian Alberta Brianti and Romaine Sorana Cirstea accomplished the set by winning on two consecutive serves and had a set lead of 2-1.
