Brianti/ Cirstea snatch title from Cornet/ Parmentier in the final – Texas Open 2011
The singles final saw a qualifier and a seeded player but for the doubles it was a completely different story, in an all-un-seeded doubles final the two teams that challenged each other were the French pair, Alize Cornet and Pauline Parmentier against the Italian Alberta Brianti and Romanian Sorana Cirstea. The two teams duelled on the hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas. In just one hour and twenty minutes, Brianti and Cirstea came out victorious in straight sets of 7-5, 6-3.
Commencing with a great start was the Italian and the Romaine, who displayed a great rhythm together and with two strong right hands they were able to smash an ace and place well thought shots which accomplished them 68% of their total service points. On the contrary, their opponent’s were only able to muster a weak defence which won them a pitiable 32% of their total return points against the Italian/ Romaine’s strong offence.
Although, Cornet and Parmentier had an average serve, that won them 17 out of 33 points, making it a 52% win of their total service points, they were unable to keep up the pace and let their adversaries break their offence, which resulted in Brianti/ Cirstea achieving a 48% of the total return points in the opening set.
In addition, the Romaine/ Italian brass gave only one opportunity to their adversaries to break them and instead broke Cornet/ Parmentier’s serve twice, gaining the statistical edge they required, they achieved the first set in 40 minutes.
Luck and the crowd, both were on the Italian/ Romaine’s side and as the crowd boosted their performance, Luck had set the tone in the second set.
This time they saw a comprehensive victory as they were able to restrict their opponents to just 2 games in the set. Although, Cornet and Parmentier had tried to snatch points off their rivals, they were unable to do so because of a tight defence and great sync.
The Italian/ Romaine duo had gone all out on their offensive strategy and accomplished 61% of their total service points against Cornet/ Parmentier, who had achieved a pitiable 39% of their total return points. , this time
History repeated itself with the French pair’s service points and the Italian/ Romaine’s return points and by breaking the French duos serve one extra time they bagged the set by accomplishing a 55% win in the total set score.
Following the match Brianti said, "In each point we really wanted this victory, so we really fought".
In the end Italian Alberta Brianti and Romaine Sorana Cirstea came out victorious and took the accolade home
