Bribon skipper Gonzalo Araújo satisfied with team’s overall performance: 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy
Home favourite, Bribon, managed to hold on to their overall lead on Day 4 of 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy at Cartagena in Spain despite a second place in the 25-mile coastal race. The
skipper helm of the Spanish team, Gonzalo Araujo was happy with the overall performance of the team and believes their efforts have been rewarded on Day 4.
The weather conditions on Day 4 were ideal for a successful sail as a strong north westerly Levant replaced the lighter south westerly breeze before the start of 25-mile coastal race.
The world champions, America’s Quantum Racing, sailed brilliantly in the coastal race to finish on top of the TP52 series fleet standings while Bribon finished second.
Speaking to the local media at the end of Day 4, Bribon skipper helm Gonzalo Araújo said, “It´s been a tough day, we worked hard.We had a bit of everything, good and bad luck. We recovered
and fought, and at the end we were rewarded. We had an incident with ALL4ONE, and after we protested, they were penalized.”
He further added, “We were getting to the port and the tacked really close to us, which made us tack also sending us to shallow water area, we nearly hit the bottom. What happened to Azzurra
is very bad luck, because they had done an almost perfect race. Our efforts were rewarded today.”
