Brice Feillu unaware of the Leopard Trek Merger – Cycling News
After the press release by team Leopard Trek confirming the news of their merger with RadioShack for coming seasons it seems as if the matter was kept secret even from the cyclists. The French rider Brice Feillu mentioned that he was unaware of the fact
that his current team is joining hands with RadioShack.
After the Tragedy of Wouter Weylandt’s death at the Giro d’ Italia 2011, Team Leopard Trek withdrew from the event and Feillu had to respect the team’s decision although he believed that team should not have pulled themselves out of the Tour.
The 26-year-old secured a stage win at the highest finish of the 2009 Tour de France as he claimed the biggest victory of his career so far by winning stage 7. Feillu joined team Leopard Trek in 2011 and has also confirmed that he was already looking for
a new team for the coming season.
Brice further added that he was hearing the rumours of Johan Bruyneel replacing Brian Nygaard but nothing was clear and he was counting on his team to provide him with the confirmed information but unfortunately he was not informed about the merger of the
two teams.
Feillu told a famous cycling newspaper that, “There was no announcement, no message to say that the team was going to stop, as happened with Agritubel [which was terminated in 2009].” He also mentioned that “Officially I haven’t received any thing, like
the other riders concerned. Martin Mortensen confirmed as much to me on the telephone of course, we’re trying to find out more from the staff, but it remains unclear.”
The French rider signed with team Leopard Trek for two years last winter but he now has to find himself a new home for the coming seasons and Feillu believes that if he had been informed about the news earlier he would have signed a contract with a French
team by now.
Despite the fact he has not performed to his best in the recent years, Feillu believes that he will still be able to find a new team for himself in the coming seasons.
