Brice Leverdez clinches Men’s Singles title at the 2011 Yonex Belgian International – Badminton news
France’s Brice Leverdez clinched the Men’s Singles title after beating Indonesia’s Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in the title-match of the 2011 Yonex Belgian International, in Belgium, on Sunday, September 18.
The winner of last week’s 2011 Kharkov International, Leverdez, who is ranked at Number 32 in the Men’s Singles world rankings, was the second seed in the main draw of the event. He played fabulous badminton throughout the event and continued his impressive
winning streak in the final against the Indonesian shuttler. The French player took 52 minutes to beat his opponent in a three-set fight.
After the match, Leverdez said, “I feel very tired now after these two weeks but I have to say that it has really been amazing for me to win these two tournaments. After going for almost three years without a win and then to win twice in two weeks is almost
unbelievable. I think I will need a rest now for a few weeks to recover before deciding my next move.”
In the first set, Leverdez stunned the Indonesian and entertained the crowd with his remarkable game as he put up wonderful show of flawless badminton. He made no mistake in the whole set which helped him in getting a one-set lead over Tedjono, who was playing
in a negative manner. The French won the game in just 16 minutes with the surprising margin of 21-7.
The following game of the final match was a complete reversal, as the Indonesian got back into the match by playing on a completely different level. The higher ranked French shuttler failed to continue his remarkable run in the second set, as his opponent
was playing fast, positive and flawless badminton. Leverdez lost the game by a margin of 13-21 in 20 minutes.
Leverdez changed his game plan and started to play with aggression from the opening points of the final set. He successfully executed powerful smashes in the right areas and consequently won the final set by a 21-11 margin, in just 16 minutes. The second
seed ended the match in 52 minutes with the margin of 21-7, 13-21 and 21-11.
