Hello, ive decided i want to be a bricklayer, the decison wasnt made over night but anyways ive been accepted to do the pre apprenticeship training required before i because a bricklayers apprentice. I want to know how hard/competitive it is during the pre apprenticeship training, unless im a complete waste of space do i stand a pretty decent chance with 40 others among me? And also how do i go from the pre apprenticeship training stage to becaome an apprentice, does the training centre hook me up with someone, or a construction company? Are the trainee apprentices "scouted" by the contractors if so? My local 6 didnt give me much info on that and honestly i never asked. I start my 3 month probation period on Monday and after July 4th then the weekend i wont get anything "officail" so any help/info/guidance would be greatly appreciated. All i know pretty much is i have 3 months probation, then i have 3 days to get a job, which they assist, then i have a week to join the BAC..

  1. I can't answer your questions specifically. All of your training requirements are set up by your local. Call your business agent or training coordinator with your questions. An apprentice with a good head on their shoulders is hard to find. Taking the initiative to ask questions will get you noticed, and those in the position to help will be more likely to help you in the future without you even asking.

If you want to be a bricklayer, keep at it. It took me 3 tries to get an electricians apprenticeship. I gave up at one point, but ended up getting back into the program.

    Good luck
