Bridal bouquet?

I have a consulation set up tomorrow with a florist and just wanted some input on what a good budget would be...

I am planning on getting a middle size bouquet of fresh red roses for myself (bride). Whats a fair price range?

I have 5 bridesmaids and 2 jr bridesmaids- my plan is to go to Michaels (Craft store) and have them put together fake ivory roses for them. Its a flate rate of $25 for the BM's and $15 for the Jr BM's PLUS the cost of the flowers that i'd be purchasing to make the bouquet. This might be around $35 for BM's and $25 for Jr BM's- reasonable price? Orginally, i wanted to do fresh flowers for everyone but Im trying to cut the costs if possible.

  1. I think if you re doing silk for the BMs you should do silk for everyone, including you.

Why not just buy bulk roses from costco or some place and wrap them yourself, that way everyone has fresh flowers.  If you do the work yourself you save alot of money.

    Edit:

i live in NoVA also, and here great things about Wollam Gardens

You can buy flowers from the farmers markets where they sell them and do them yourself.

  2. Im not sure if youre set on fresh roses for yourself, but www.forever-roses.com has really nice flowers and you can get a 48 rose bouquet for 40.99.. and you can keep it too :)

  3. My fiance's sister's bouquet cost $80. The florist I have contacted (does local, organic & fair trade flowers) is going to charge $80/each for bouquets (medium sized).

  4. Ask the florist what the cost of the fresh flowers would be.  I don't think you'd really be saving anything by having fake flowers for the bridal party.

You could get a better discount by having the florist do all the flowers too.

Check with more than one florist too.  Prices can vary substantially.

I'm not a fan of fake flowers for a wedding.  Regardless of quality, they are still fake.  I think the photos could look off too if you are carrying fresh flowers and everyone else fake.

At $35  per for fake, I think you can do a nice fresh arrangement for the girls to carry.

Edit**ha,  I'm NOVA too!  I haven't lived here long enough to recommend a good florist...but I just had a thought that when you meet with the florist ask what they could recommend to give you the ivory look you want, but to keep the cost down.

Lisianthus is beautiful in bouquets and will off-set roses very nicely.  It's a great flower.

    Good luck.

  5. I got my flowers for my  wedding at Michaels.  They were already pre-made, hand tied roses (red) for 12.99.  They were on the aisle with the wedding stuff, so I would see if they already have some made up.  I wouldn't pay more than 15 to 20 bucks for them to make bouquets over the cost of the materials needed.

Also try looking at this site online, they have alot to offer.

If your or one of your maids is crafty, you could make them yourself.  http://www.michaels.com/art/online/proje...

  6. I start off by saying that I'm biased.  I was a wedding florist for years.  And I love weddings.  I agree with others:  fake flowers at a wedding look cheap and cost you more.  Plus, do you really want to add more to your to-do list?

A good florist will not sell you a package or have a base fee for making a bouquet.  They will work with your budget.  And a hand-tied rose bouquet is not an expensive bouquet.  Maybe $30-50 for a medium size.  And each girl could hold just a few roses, which should cost about $10-15.

But the cost of bouquets only is part of the budget:  what about corsages or boutinieres?  Ceremony flowers?

When I used to tell people how to budget, I would say budget $100 per bridesmaid (that covers all the other things too).  If that's too much, then you know you have to explain that to the florist, and s/he should be glad to show you what works in your budget.

  7. First off where are you located?  Most of the time it depends on where you are located and how expensive the flowers are, that will determine your costs.  Usually I would charge $50-100 for a mid-size to a larger size bouquet of roses.  For the bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids don't get the fake flowers it will make the whole thing look cheap, you can do long stem lilies in white (3 for each bridesmaid and junior bridesmaid) and use coordinating ribbon to tie in with the theme.  Usually lilies go for $2-$3 dollars per stem and will only come to $3.00 more than what you were going to originally spend on the fake flowers.  Remember just because you have roses doesn't mean your bridesmaids has to have roses too.
