Bridgehampton favourite for Beverley Middle Distance Series Handicap
Bridgehampton has been rated as favourite to win the Beverley Middle Distance Series Handicap at Beverley in England on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. The winning horse will be given a cash prize of £2,588.
The stamina of all runners will be put to a test in the race, as the overall distance to cover is 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 16 yards. Following are the entries confirmed for the event: Bridgehampton, Cheviot Quest, Margo Channing, Courtesy Call, Bursting Bubbles,
Altnaharra, Flashman, Mr Snoozy, No Time To Cry, Henry George, Maliha and Fine Kingdom.
Out of the above mentioned runners, Bridgehampton seems to be in the best shape at the moment, thus the bookies have awarded him with pretty decent odds. He has not managed to win any event until now, so the punters might be reluctant to risk money in his
favour.
The three-year-old gelding has participated in three races until now, but has never managed to finish in the top three even once. He made his debut in September last year and finished 12th in his first ever outing.
However, the Michael Bell’s trainee improved his performances afterwards, finishing fourth in his next two races. He was up against some very good runners on both occasions, thus was expected to struggle to some extent.
Things will be a lot easier for Bridgehampton, as most of his opponents are relatively inexperienced at this level. He will be partnered by veteran jockey, Jamie Spencer, who has won numerous events at this level. His strike rate is also good, which will
help him attract a lot of bets from the punters today.
On the other hand, Margo Channing will also be the one to watch out for in the race. She has participated in six events until now, but has never been successful. However, she has managed to secure the third spot on a couple of occasions, which suggests that
she has the potential to fight at the front.
The three-year-old filly showed some class in her previous race, as she finished third in it. She was not given good odds, but surprised one and all with her run.
Other than the top two favourites, Cheviot Quest will also be the one to watch out for in the race.
