Bridget Coley captures Women’s 800m freestyle gold: Day four - 2012 Canada Swimming Cup
Bridget Coley of Hamilton Aquatic Club captured gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on day four of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Sunday, July 8.
The 18-year-old Hamilton devastated hopes of her opponents in the distant freestyle event as she reached the finishing blockade for first position.
Her gruelling efforts placed her two body lengths ahead of her following swimmer and she hit the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 54.64 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Karyn Jewell of Club de Natation de Gatineau, who snared silver medal of the 800m discipline by producing a nice time of 8 minutes and 56.98 seconds.
Jewell was chased by Heather Maitland of Toronto Swim Club, who stayed 0.37 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 57.35 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Breanna Hendriks of University of Calgary Swim Club, who stayed nearly ten seconds apart and settled on the wall by submitting a time of 9 minutes and 07.06 seconds.
The 22-year-old Hendriks was chased by Genevieve Cantin of Rouge et Or, who stayed 0.12 seconds away from her and submitted a time of 9 minutes and 07.18 seconds for fifth position.
Similarly, Cantin was traced by Alyson Ackman of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who stayed full body length apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 9 minutes and 08.02 seconds for sixth position.
Subsequently, seventh spot of the race was secured by Anina Z Lund of Badger Swim Club, who stayed nearly half a second slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her swim in a time of 9 minutes and 08.53 seconds.
The 13-year-old Lund was trailed by Sarah-Lee Hevey of Camo, who remained just 0.09 seconds slower from her former finisher and completed her swim in eighth best place by reporting a time of 9 minutes and 08.62 seconds.
In addition, Coley received a lot of appreciation for her scintillating efforts in the sixteen-lap freestyle event at the prize distribution ceremony of the tournament.
