Briecat returns to the races with an emphatic win in the Cool Air Stakes
David Wilson and Holly Wilson owned 6-year-old mare, Briecat, was put away after her fourth place finish in the restricted Santa Lucia Stakes at Santa Anita Park on 27 March, 2011, where she couldn’t conjure up a magical run in the stretch and in result
gave way to winner Church Camp to assert his command in the 1 1/16 mile dirt race with the winning time of 1 minute and 42.39 seconds.
Vladimir Cerin trained Florida bred mare, Briecat, returned to the races with a bang, taking on favourites of all sorts and runners who have been competing in races all year round never had any answer to Briecat’s final sprint down the stretch in the $66,640
Cool Air Stakes at Hollywood Park on 7 December, 2011.
It took Briecat her fourth start to register a win under her belt for the season, as she came close to winning earlier in 2011 in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes when she finished second to favoured Cozi Rosie at about a mile at Santa Anita.
With all luck eluding the mare, Briecat couldn’t muster out anything to go past Cozi Rosie as the winning filly completed the mile distance in 1 minute and 35.94 seconds on turf. Though Briecat was able to defeat the rampant Malibu Pier, who finished third
on the day.
In the Cool Air Stakes, Briecat under jockey Victor Espinoza seemed to have enjoyed being cut down in distance as she ran over a distance of less than a mile for the first time ever since she finished fourth in the Mesa Handicap at Turf Paradise on 14 March,
2009.
The daughter of Adcat, out of mare Silk Briefcase by Marlin, Briecat in the Cool Air Stakes angled inside the eventual runner up, 4-year-old filly Givine, to edge past her by a nose before rallying down the stretch to go up in the final strides.
Briecat in all of her 29 starts went on to bag her 10th career win as she shot up her bank roll to $627,567 and went on to complete the cut back distance of 6 furlongs in 1 minute and 9.44 seconds on turf.
