Brief News: Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs and West Ham United
MANCHESTER UNITED
The Red Devils’ manager Sir Alex Ferguson admits Paul Scholes is doubtful for Manchester United’s crucial Barclays Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday. Manchester United’s veteran midfielder has not played any game after sustaining groin injury
in a match against Rangers last month. Paul Scholes was also expected to return against Arsenal at Old Trafford on last Monday, but, after a minor setback in training, Sir Alex fears he will not be able to call upon his influential playmaker against Chelsea.
While commenting about Paul Scholes, the legendary manager of Manchester United said that Scholes tried training last weekend but it looked like he was not 100%. Ferguson added that Scholes would be doubtful for next match against Chelsea.
Manchester United are the only unbeaten in Europe’s Top Flight football. The Red Devils have qualified for the round of 16 in UEFA Champions League by being unbeaten in their group. Along with that, Manchester United are also leading Barclays Premier League
table with 34 points to their name out of 16 League games. Recently, Sir Alex Ferguson’s team defeated their tittle rivals Arsenal by one goal at Old Trafford.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Harry Redknapp believes Barcelona have proven it is possible to play the beautiful game in the modern era. He said: "It just goes to show you don't need big power. Any little lads out there who are growing up, don't ever be told you're too small to play
the game, because it's about ability, this game. Look at Barcelona with their players: (Andres) Iniesta, Xavi (Hernandez) - just incredible - (Lionel) Messi. Tiny little lads with fantastic ability. So, when you've got that ability and you can play and pass
the ball, that's the way to play the game. Any little kids who watch and get told they're too small, watch that video and you'll see you're never too small. It's not about size; it's about ability and wanting to play."
The Spurs are currently placed fifth in Barclays Premier League and are also through to the next round of UEFA Champions League.
WEST HAM UNITED
The Hammers’ manager admits he wants to keep his talismanic striker, Carlton Cole, but it is uncertain if Cole will still be at Upton when the next winter transfer window closes. The English marksman has been reported to be linked with English giants Liverpool.
Moreover, Tottenham Hotspurs and Stoke City has also shown interest in signing Carlton Cole. The financially-stricken West Ham could cash in on their most bankable name and Avram acknowledges the Carlton Cole’s West Ham future is uncertainty.
He said: "We want him to be here but you never know what will happen in football. We want to keep this squad. I don't like the January transfer window because it's not easy to bring players in and we don't want to lose players. We want to keep the same
squad for all the season."
