Brief overview of Chinese current history/and now?

Question

I am really uninformed about China in respect to what was the government like leading up to the early 1970's, what changed and what is the government and economy etc like now? I have tried to explain how China "works" differently than the USA and really feel uneducated about it. Can anyone help me or point to a website that is relatively brief and "user-friendly" to read? Thanks soo much

You should just check Wikipedia. Not only do they have overviews of everything but they also have pretty important events that you can read extensively about.
