Briefly describe what is meant by the greenhouse effect?

if you have ever been in an green house it is much warmer than the outside. even on a windy day its warm in a Green house.  they tend to trap sunlight.  they say that the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is acting as a green house and trapping UV rays.  they say the co2 go into atmosphere the warmer the earth will get.  this does not necessarily mean its all our fault.

green house effect is the phenomenon whereby the earth's atmosphere traps solar radiation, caused by the presence in the atmosphere of gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapour, and methane that allow incoming sunlight to pass through but absorb heat radiated back from the earth's surface.

a greenhouse is a space limited by transparent walls. the probability of electromagnetic radiation to enter it is higher that the probability that it leaves it.
