I have a huskee riding mower that has engine problem

when I engage the mower blades the darn thing starts

spiting and sputting and has dark smoke coming out of exhaust , I took the deck belt off to see if the blades

might have something tangled around them, but it still runs the same, last summer I had the same problem

actually thats when it all started, I took the carburetor

off and cleaned it by blowing air through it , after that it started running this way all the time,

anyone else ever experience this problem, if so what was the cause and solution (31q777- 0215EL / 18 1/2 HP

  1. It is the carburetor.  The carb needs to be disassembled and soaked in a good carb cleaner, not the spray junk.  Blown out with compressed air and inspected for cleanliness.  Put it back together with a rebuild kit.  Kits are available at any small engine repair shop or on line at outdoordistributors.com.  Make sure the fuel tank and the filter are clean also.  Might want to check your refueling tank for dirt, water, etc.  Even though you took the carb off and blew air through it, you didn't clean it.

  2. I have a similar problem, I end up choking the carb nearly all the way pulled out before it will run decent.  Then, ½ an acre later it begins to sputter and I have to reduce the choke to make it run smoother.

The problem began when I refueled using the "around the yard" 5 gallon can which may have had some residual water or dirt specks.

Replacing spark plugs and cleaning the air cleaner filter helped to make it run smoother.

When you engage your blades I envision it loads the engine more causing the throttle to increase automatically.  The black smoke might be an indication it's too choked.
