They were up against the Pepperdine Waves in a match on Friday and were able to hand out a defeat to them. The game between the two teams went on for four exciting sets by the end of which, BYU had established their superiority without a doubt.
Interestingly, BYU lost the first set of the game to the Pepperdines by six points. The fact that they had defeated the BYU team at 25-18, increased the confidence of the Pepperdines significantly. However, over the course of the next three sets, the Cougars
made sure that it plummeted from where BYU had allowed the morale of the Pepperdines to soar.
The last three sets of the match that the Cougars were able to win for themselves consecutively were by a comfortable margin. As the Cougars were celebrating their decisive win by giving pats on each other’s backs and the number thirteenth ranked Pepperdines
were heading out of the court in disappointment, the score board displayed final set scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18.
With their recent win, the overall season victories of the Cougars now total at the amount of 19. They have been able to tally these impressive amounts of wins at an equally commendable low number of losses that add up to be seven.
As opposed to the overall season statistics, the conference plat record of the Cougars shows the same consistency in performance. The number of times that the Cougars have celebrated success at the end of a conference match total to be 14. These accomplishments
have been made against registering losses that equal to be six in all.
The first set of the match saw an uncharacteristic performance by the Cougars. They took their time coming into form and putting up a significant challenge against the Pepperdines. However, by the time that the Cougars had pulled themselves together, the
Pepperdines had a comfortable advantage which they were able to turn into a win at 25-18.
Having learnt their lesson, the Cougars came out strong in the second set of the game. They were able to rally themselves together and remind the spectators why the Cougars are one of the best teams in the nation. The Pepperdines did not let the Cougars
cruise towards an easy win and made it hard for them to take the second set of the game at 25-21.
Once the Cougars had their momentum built, they were unstoppable in the third and the fourth set as well. The Pepperdines registered progressively lower scores in each of the next two sets which they lost at 19-25 and 18-25.
Both the Cougars and the Pepperdines are set to play each other again tonight.
