Question:

Bright futures Scholarship and Marriage?

by  |  earlier

If you earn a bright future scholarship in Florida.. But then you decide to get married. Do you loose the scholarship? I live with my mom who didn't qualify for FAFSA. But she is financially struggling. And I decided to get married. If you get married you qualify for other grants. Which I need, desperately. But do you loose bright futures? My boyfriend has 100% and I don't want to take that away from him.

Answers would be extremely appreciated.

(Just FYI I have been with this guy for years.)

*And if you are going to respond with "Well you should have waited until college was done to get married.." OR "you shouldn't use marriage for help in college" then please just save yourself time and don't even post back on this question.

  1. I have bright future too. Bright future is all yours as long as you have a 3.0 GPA and do not drop your classes. You earned it, it wasn't given to you due to financial situation. It's all SAT's score and Grade. So no as long as you have the GPA  and complete your course, they have no say in your marriage. even if you did so 10 times.

  2. If you go to the "General Requirements to Receive Bright Futures Awards" on their website, there is no mention of being married or even being a dependent. http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.or... But if you want to me totally sure, I would check with the financial aid office of the school you (or your boyfriend) is attending. Good luck!
