  1. Algae is a sign of too much light.

Are you leaving the light on for more than 12 hours?

You should only have the lights on for 12 hours a day at the max. you can cut it down to 8-10 hours on.

Never heard of bright red or orange algae.

If you dont cut back on the light it will most likely spread rapidly. Your doing something that type of algae likes or it would not have shown up at all.

But you need to find the cause of the algae.

    Most likely too much light.

If your tank is near a window or in any kind of direct sunlight, you should try to keep the sunlight off of it by means of covering the window, or moving the tank. Sunlight will grow algae very rapidly.

Also if you dont have the right KIND of light, your only going to grow algae.

You should have a 6,700K Daylight bulb 7,000-10,000 Lumens is good. and it should be the right watts for the size tank that your lighting.

2 watts per gallon is good for most low/med light plants.

Light that is not in the blue/red spectrum is going to grow nothing but algae I dont know if you have plants but you should think about changing your light source, or the amount of time that it is on for.

    Hope this helps!
