Question:

Bright red sea-monkeys?

I had just gotten LIVE sea monkeys from a pet store and although not hatched from eggs, i'm pretty sure they're either sea monkeys or brine shrimp. Anyway..

1. Will they survive on small food items like guppy food?

2. I read that they do not require any cleaning of the tank since its an ecosystem type of thing, but won't their f***s produce the toxic ammonia?

And can anyone verify this particular species of sea monkey?

  1. Sea monkeys should only eat pre-packaged 'Sea monkey food'. You can order it or buy packages at stores like Target or Walmart.

    Here's a site for it:

No. The gunk on the bottom of the tank contains Sea-Monkey eggs and algae. You don't need to clean it, but if you wish you can just suck up some of that gunk with your Aqua Leash. Don't forget to top off the tank with more water!

If you do not have an aqua leash, it is recommended, and you 'll need to aerate the water periodically. Supplies can be found at store and on the internet.

If you have the 'real' Sea Monkey's then you have a hybrid species of brine shrimp called "Artemia NYOS". "Artemia" is the genus they belong to, which includes Fairy and Brine shrimp.
