Brilliant Paul Pierce carries Boston Celtics to 102 – 95 win over Charlotte Bobcats – NBA Recap
The Boston Celtics picked up another away win, this time over the Charlotte Bobcats 102 – 95 on Monday. Momentum in the game shifted back and forth but in the end the Celtics were able to silence the Time Warner Cable Arena crowd and get the win.
Paul Pierce orchestrated the Boston victory with a brilliant double-double. Pierce had a whopping 36 points and 10 rebounds, as well as 4 assists, 3 steals and the same number of blocks. His aggressive play helped Boston get the win over a spirited Charlotte
side.
"He was in attack mode tonight and we really needed that. " Doc Rivers, the Celtics head coach, said after the game.
Pierce though was more focused on the game rather than his own performance.
"I thought we came out and made a concerted effort to get the ball inside. We kept the ball moving and stayed aggressive out there. We took out time and tried to get to the free throw line. I just tired to be more aggressive than usual (with Ray Allen and
Mickael Pietrus out) whether it was at the line or taking more shots."
Veteran forward Kevin Garnett also put in a vintage performance for the Celtics. Garnett had 24 points, Brandon Bass had 15 while point guard Rajon Rondo had 7 points with 13 assists.
Gerald Henderson was a bright light for the Charlotte Bobcats as he scored team high 21 points. Byron Mullens came off the bench for 18 while Derrick Brown netted 16.
The game got off to an even start and near the half way mark of the first quarter the scores were tied at 13 – 13. The Celtics then launched into a 14 – 0 burst that left Bobcats shell shocked and put Boston up 27 – 13. The visitors did even more damage
before the quarter ended at 33 – 15.
The Bobcats however weren’t going to take it lying down and made their intentions clear with a 10 – 0 sprint to start the second segment, cutting the gap to 33 – 25. They continued to eat away at the deficit throughout the period and at halftime were behind
by just 2 points, 52 – 50.
The third quarter proved to be pivotal in the game. The Celtics had an early 7 – 0 run that put them up 61 – 52. Afterwards they retained the lead with relative ease, taking it into double digits before ending the segment up at 82 – 75.
Charlotte never troubled the Boston in the final 12 minutes, and the Celtics saw out the game at 102 – 95.
