Brilliant Speed to end his losing streak in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes at the Spa
The Thomas Albertrani trained, Brilliant Speed, has been on a six-race losing streak and the trainer is hoping that the runner will avail this opportunity, and snap his agonisingly painful losing streak.
With this hope, Brilliant Speed will run in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes, which will be hosted at Saratoga on 18th August, 2012.
The last time the son of Dynaformer, out of mare Speed Succeeds, won anything was in September, 2011, when he claimed a victory in the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes over 1 1/8 miles.
Hosted at Saratoga, he completed the race in 1 minute and 48.73 seconds and defeated the Todd Pletcher trained, Queen'splatekitten.
Maybe the fact that he has raced before at Saratoga will aid him, since he badly needs it. He will have to work a little on the distance but, everything else seems to be in order. The trainer told the press that:
“He’s been a hard-luck horse this year.” He further stated that: “Last time he won was the Saranac. You know horses for courses – this might be his.”
After the Saranac Stakes, the older division runner ran in the Grade 1 Jamaica Handicap over 1 1/8 miles at Belmont Park, where he finished second to Western Aristocrat.
The Live Oak Plantation owned runner tried his luck in a bigger race when he competed in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf at Churchill Downs, but the larger distance on 1 ½ mile, though he managed a placed finish in third behind Sea Moon in second and
St Nicholas Abbey in first.
This season it seems that the runner has gotten worse, as he finished 5th in the Grade 1 Appleton Stakes over 1 mile.
Third in the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic, fifth in the Grade 1 Manhattan Handicap and, his most recent outing was in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes, where he finished 6th.
This is the four-year-old’s chance to change his record which stands at 3-3-5 in 18 starts. In this grand event, he will be paired with Javier Castellano, and the duo will break from post number 8.
