Brilliant batting takes Detroit Tigers to 5-2 win over Texas Ranger in Game 3 – MLB Playoffs
Detroit Tigers put in a tremendous batting performance as they beat the Texas Rangers 5-2 in the third outing of the seven-game American League Championship Series at Comerica Park in Detroit on Tuesday, October 11.
After losing two consecutive games of the Series, the Tigers’ batting line-up retaliated strongly and made a valuable contribution in the third outing. Tigers’ opened their outing in the bottom of the fourth inning and then kept their momentum until the
bottom of the seventh to finalise their domination.
Victor Martinez, Jhonny Peralta and Miguel Cabrera each launched one-run homers, which helped the Tigers to prove their batting powerhouse. Designated hitter, Martinez who was the main point of the criticism, led the Tigers’ outing off launching a devastating
376-feet long one-run homer off Rangers’ starter Colby Lewis.
Spectators had associated high expectations from the hard hitting Miguel Cabrera, who acted as per the expectations and opened his account with an RBI generating double in the bottom of the fifth inning. The right-handed first baseman, with one of the best
batting averages in the AL, also launched a one-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. Cabrera also removed all the allegations he was facing due to his inconsistent performance.
Peralta surprised the Rangers pitching depth with his two hits, one of which went out of the park. 29-years-old batter also scored his first run and second RBI of the 2011 post-season. On the first pitch of the bottom of the sixth inning, Peralta made a
powerful swing and touched the ball to send it into the stands.
Austin Jackson, who was considered the most crucial player of the game, managed to fulfil his duty scoring an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland was a little concerned about his inconsistent starter Doug Fister, but the right-hand hurler worked just over seven solid innings. Although he gave away seven hits, he bounced back immediately after allowing a base run. It was
his first post-season win of the season and fifth consecutive win against the Texas Rangers in six games.
Tigers are still one-win behind the Rangers and will bring their young and energetic pitcher Rick Porcello into the action in the fourth outing of the series.
