  1. Absolutely !!

  2. Forget it. The forces are not there to promote social engineering or to help the underprivileged.

The US Army takes a lot of educationally subnormal people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and look at how "good" they are. Half the trouble they've had in Iraq is due to uneducated, unintelligent men who cannot adjust to another culture and who offend the locals whenever they come into contact with them. That gets people killed in the long term. The British Army, by and large, has managed to avoid that sort of thing. Recruitment standards are that bit higher, and those who do not have some degree of native intelligence will not be allowed to join.

The kids from poorer backgrounds are welcome to apply to join in any case, if they'd like a decent career. There is nothing to stop them except the fact that they don't always want to. Forcing them isn't frightfully intelligent.

  3. Yes bring it back.It would teach some of today,s youngsters life skills and respect ,which are sadly lacking in many people.

  4. does that include women, doing National Service as well. as Woman wants their equal rights!.

yep they should be back National service, it would put some manners into the youth of today

  5. No.  Only idiots who think there's an easy fix for everything believe in National Service.

  6. Much as I sympathise with your question, unless there is an outbreak of a major European or World War it's just not going to happen.

I was a regular serviceman who completed 12 very happy years in the RAF, but I joined at a time while there were still some National Servicemen still serving.

And with all due respect to them and with some exceptions obviously, they didn't want to be there, and they really weren't wanted by the regulars.

It is often quoted that the British have the best Armed Forces in the world, and I think that is true, but it's because they are professionals who WANT to serve their country, and make a career out of it, not a two year forced stint.

Much better would be Community Service, where young people would learn discipline and contribute to their own environment, learn good values etc.

  7. no way!

  8. It's always people who have never done National Service, and are far too young to even remember it, who want it brought back. Try thinking for yourself.

  9. People like you belong castrated.

For every mothers tear for a fallen son.

I want to have the balls of the War creators.

If you want to fight do it yourself.

National Service is a peadophile act!

  10. Inever thought I would have supported such a move being a softy liberal lefty however if parents are unwiling to do what's necessary to turn their offspring into useful and contributing members of society then somebody else will have to.  The current lack of personal discipline and respect for others, the failure to take responsibility for their own actions and the feeling that they are somehow owed something serves neither the individual nor society as a whole.

  11. National Service would be a good way of giving kids from poorer backgrounds a chance to do something exciting. I'm for National Service.
