Bring former cricketers in Anti-Corruption Unit, Michael Vaughan suggests http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 – Cricket News Update
Former English skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Paul-Vaughan-c76145, has advised International Cricket Council (ICC) to include ex-players in the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) for the better surveillance of International
games.
Vaughan reasoned that since the officers of ACU have limited knowledge of the sport, they are unable to spot potential fixing in a match.
"It is a fact that the ACU is run by former police officers who have personally told me in the past they do not fully understand the game," Vaughan wrote in his 'Daily Telegraph' column.
Vaughan’s comments came in the wake of the recent verdict against Pakistani cricketers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418 at Southwark Crown Court in London. The duo was found guilty for cheating
and accepting money from the fixer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed.
Another Pakistani pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 last year.
The three players have been declared as culprits but the final punishment is yet to be announced by the jury. For their misconduct, Butt and Asif may face two and seven years of imprisonment
respectively.
Vaughan believes that the International governing body of cricket needs to hire specialised people in order to avoid such happenings in the future.
The former captain, who led England to momentous Ashes win in 2005, insisted, "The ACU needs to start employing former players who know the game and can sense when they see something that
is not quite right. With so many facets of the game to manipulate you eed a division of the ACU with the power to police events on the field. It would be the fixing equivalent of the match referee. These ex-players could study footage and, if they spot anything
untoward, could flag it up to the ICC.”
Although, Vaughan asked for a strict punishment for the guilty players, he – at the same time - bewailed that the world of cricket will miss talented fast bowlers like Asif and Amir.
However, he hoped for Amir’s comeback, saying that since Amir is a teenager, he has the chance to return to the International level and show his magic once again.
