Question:

Bring on global warming!?

Can we all go on long-haul holidays, buy extra fuel hungry cars (SUV's preferred), not recycle, and do pretty much anything else to heat up the UK. This is not a joke, and I am not alone. There are a lot of other people who feel the same on Yahoo.

  1. Oh well as long there are a lot of people on Yahoo who feel that way, we should ignore the conclusions of climate scientists and send the planet to h**l in a handbasket.  Good thinking.

  2. u are not alone?

do all of you get together and think of dumb things to do to cause harm?

why don't you guys have a farting competition and really heat things up?

  3. as long as America and china are still here, the planet will be getting warmer!!! all those big 4x4 and factories!! america is ruining the planet anyway, and do they care ermmmmmmmmmmm NO! bring on the sun

  4. At the expense of the rest of the planet? No, no I can't.

  5. You NAIVE.The people on yahoo are just ''people'' NOT scientest.

  6. Global warming is a natural phenomena and not caused by humans, did humans cause the end of the last ice age? When the Polar ice caps melt, the gulf stream will move, and the British isles will get colder.

Are the world's ice caps melting because of climate change, or are the reports just a lot of scare mongering by the advocates of the global warming theory?

Scare mongering appears to be the case, according to reports from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that reveal that almost all the allegedly “lost” ice has come back. A NOAA report shows that ice levels which had shrunk from 5 million square miles in January 2007 to just 1.5 million square miles in October, are almost back to their original levels.

Moreover, a Feb. 18 report in the London Daily Express showed that there is nearly a third more ice in Antarctica than usual, challenging the global warming crusaders and buttressing arguments of skeptics who deny that the world is undergoing global warming.

The Daily express recalls the photograph of polar bears clinging on to a melting iceberg which has been widely hailed as proof of the need to fight climate change and has been used by former Vice President Al Gore during his "Inconvenient Truth" lectures about mankind’s alleged impact on the global climate.

Gore fails to mention that the photograph was taken in the month of August when melting is normal. Or that the polar bear population has soared in recent years.

As winter roars in across the Northern Hemisphere, Mother Nature seems to have joined the ranks of the skeptics.

As the Express notes, scientists are saying the northern Hemisphere has endured its coldest winter in decades, adding that snow cover across the area is at its greatest since 1966. The newspaper cites the one exception — Western Europe, which had, until the weekend when temperatures plunged to as low as -10 C in some places, been basking in unseasonably warm weather.

Around the world, vast areas have been buried under some of the heaviest snowfalls in decades. Central and southern China, the United States, and Canada were hit hard by snowstorms. In China, snowfall was so heavy that over 100,000 houses collapsed under the weight of snow.

Jerusalem, Damascus, Amman, and northern Saudi Arabia report the heaviest falls in years and below-zero temperatures. In Afghanistan, snow and freezing weather killed 120 people. Even Baghdad had a snowstorm, the first in the memory of most residents.

AFP news reports icy temperatures have just swept through south China, stranding 180,000 people and leading to widespread power cuts just as the area was recovering from the worst weather in 50 years, the government said Monday. The latest cold snap has taken a severe toll in usually temperate Yunnan province, which has been struck by heavy snowfalls since Thursday, a government official from the provincial disaster relief office told AFP.

Twelve people have died there, state Xinhua news agency reported, and four remained missing as of Saturday.

An ongoing record-long spell of cold weather in Vietnam's northern region, which started on Jan. 14, has killed nearly 60,000 cattle, mainly bull and buffalo calves, local press reported Monday. By Feb. 17, the spell had killed a total of 59,962 cattle in the region, including 7,349 in the Ha Giang province, 6,400 in Lao Cai, and 5,571 in Bac Can province, said Hoang Kim Giao, director of the Animal Husbandry Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, according to the Pioneer newspaper.

In Britain the temperatures plunged to -10 C in central England, according to the Express, which reports that experts say that February could end up as one of the coldest in Britain in the past 10 years with the freezing night-time conditions expected to stay around a frigid -8 C until at least the middle of the week. And the BBC reports that a bus company's efforts to cut global warming emissions have led to services being disrupted by cold weather.

Meanwhile Athens News reports that a raging snow storm that blanketed most of Greece over the weekend and continued into the early morning hours on Monday, plunging the country into sub-zero temperatures. The agency reported that public transport buses were at a standstill on Monday in the wider Athens area, while ships remained in ports, public services remained closed, and schools and courthouses in the more severely-stricken prefectures were also closed.

Scores of villages, mainly on the island of Crete, and in the prefectures of Evia, Argolida, Arcadia, Lakonia, Viotia, and the Cyclades islands were snowed in.

More than 100 villages were snowed-in on the island of Crete and temperatures in Athens dropped to -6 C before dawn, while the coldest temperatures were recorded in Kozani, Grevena, Kastoria and Florina, where they plunged to -12 C.

If global warming gets any worse we'll all freeze to death.

  8. Heard a scientist on talk radio the other day ,and no he was not affiliated with big oil and he said even if we stopped all man made carbon dioxide emissions it would take the Earth 5,000 years to dissipate All these global warming freaks are clueless .As a matter of fact a number of scientists are saying we are at the end of a warming cyclical trend and are about to enter a time of global cooling. This was according to a study of solar activity and the sun goes thru cycles of higher activity and less activity makes sense to me the sun gets hotter  the Earth heats up the sun gets cooler we cool down. Global warming is another liberal scheme to implement socialism which is what libs are all about ,CONTROL.

  9. Yeah, if driving SUV's really caused "global warming" then they would've encouraged it during "global cooling" era of the 70's, right?

Since Al Gore and other elite alarmists don't care about it, I guess we shouldn't either.

  10. What a wally.

  11. unfortunately this country has been ruined by other methods lately so a bit of heat in the uk wont make much difference...

  12. Solar Power for SUV'S  might be an idea. Then again Solar Power Socialism could enable this to happen and give people what they want through alternitive  means of power thus dealing with any guilt by taking care of Global Warming.

  13. i am all for recycling purely for the fact i hate waste not to " save the planet " I cant understand how people can be taken in by what must be the worlds biggest scam do they not realise the monetary cost to them fuel water electricity also the cost to their freedom air travel road travel smoking governments of the so called civil countries are no better than the dictators they condemn they want to rule by fear but the rod they use is "Global Warming" knowing fear full citizens will gladly throw all they own to the government to " save our planet ".time to wake up to the fact Earth the planet we so want to save does not need us to save it , it has had the capability to survive for millions of years before we arrived , it has been a fireball a jungle & who knows how many ice ages it has been through and will continue to do so with or without our help just as we grow old and change so will this earth many times over, so dont loose sleep worrying yourselves to  death while governments line thier pockets with your worrymoney go out & enjoy the heat & sunshine...before the government tells you the truth....we are heading for " Global Freezing " ha ha send me all your worry money folks.

  14. I Dont think you understand what global warming means . Temperature increase is not the problem. But it causes complete chaos in climate patterns around the world. The Increased energy absorbed in the atmosphere will increase the extreme changes in all the earths systems from day to day weather , climatic zones through to possibly plate tectonic energy. Are you really suggesting that we accelerate this, and speed up how we are chemically changing the atmosphere ???. Scary

One question for you to think about, when millions of our fellow humans are displaced and drowning in for example Bangladesh (not much sea level increase is requiredfor that to happen), do we just sit by and watch them suffering or do we in our collective responsibility help them in their suffering. Surely it is better to try to avoid these problems if we have the power to . You are part of a society that works together as a collective (not perfectly ) but we have a responsibility to each other on this globe.

  15. If we take the alarmists for their word, and assume that CO2 is warming the planet significantly, it is actually doing most of the warming in the coldest places and during the coldests nights and winter temperatures.  GHGs have a moderating effect on temperature.  Since they are pushing an agenda and are on a quest to save the rest of us from ourselves, they will never acknowledge the benefits of warming which is pretty obvious to most second graders.

  16. It's here already, have you not noticed the huge floods in 2007.?? And it WILL get wetter.

  17. Yes,, get two 4 barrows carburetors on the SUV so you can get there faster

  18. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT... is if the contrary happens and the warming disrupts thje Gulf Stream.. in this case, Britain would have a weather more like Yukon or Siberia.

So unless you are sure of the result you will get, I wouldn´t recomment you to play with a system as complex as the Earth.

  19. I go with Ewood Eddie.

  20. I will drive my SUV a little more tomorrow.

  21. That is terrible!!! Do you not care about the environment? True, global warming may not affect you personally, but it will very soon.  Sea levels will rise, displacing millions of organisms.  The animals in the poles are losing their habitats and dying.  Hurricanes and floods will occur.  Forests fires will happen more often, if we don't take action the world will become a detrimental disaster!
