I going on a Royal Carribean Cruise to Mexico. Are you allowed to bring a bottle or box wine on board? Should I just pack it in my bag when I check my luggage before boarding?

Is this allowed? and if not what can happen? Would they just take it?

  1. I went on Celebrity criuses and they would not let us bring our own.  If we bought any in the duty free on the ship or the islands they would hold it for us untill the last night of the trip.

  2. The RC website would tell you whether you are officially allowed to bring wine on board.

As far as "sneaking" it on board, I just read at CruiseCritic.com the other day that the cruiselines are beginning to crack down on that.  But for discussions pro and con - ad nauseum - go to the CC website, click on "Boards", then either "Royal Caribbean" [for specific comments on that line's policy and ways around it and enforcement, etc] or to "Money Saving Ideas".  Or just do a search on "sneaking wine onboard" or some such.  You'll get more than you bargained for!!

    Have a great cruise!

  3. RCI allows you to bring two bottles of wine.  They'll charge corkage, $25 per bottle I think, if you want to have them in the dining room.

You can hand-carry or put them in your suitcase, but if they're in checked luggage I strongly encourage you to use a hard-sided case and pack them very carefully.  Those bags get thrown around a lot.

Note: wine and champagne are treated differently from liquor.  None of the cruise lines allow you to bring hard alcohol aboard.

  4. I just came back from a Celebrity cruise which is owned by RCL.  Their cruise information we received in the mail stated we could bring 2 bottles of wine with no problem.  However, they would charge a $25 corkage fee if we were to take the wine to the restaurant.

We brought a good bottle of champagne along as well as a great bottle of Reisling.  We ordered cheese and crackers from room service and had the wine in the stateroom with friends.

Someone else gave us a second bottle of champagne aboard the ship and on the last night, we took it to the showroom and shared it with friends while watching the show.

The RCL answer is probably the same but you could call their customer service line just to make sure.

  5. Royal Caribbean does not allow you to bring wine on their ships. Whether you can sneak it or not, I don't know, and am not sure I would take the chance. On the other hand, Carnival allows you to bring one bottle of wine per person on the ship when first boarding. Of course they charge you if you need to have it opened in the dining room, but we brought a cork s***w and packed it in our luggage. Saved a couple bucks that trip, plus had the wine we liked. Have a great time.

  6. I have been on 2 Carnival cruises and both times I brought a bottle of Run, Vodka, Gin, and Tequila in my luggage.  Things to mix with (coke, OJ, etc) are free...even room service.  I would have coke brought to my room and then make my own drinks.  I'm sure wine is the same.

What if you get caught?  No big deal.  In fact, when you come back from each port of call they ask if you bought any booze and they lable it and store it for you until the end of the cruise.  So, if you get caught, they will just hold it for you.
