I am a US citizen working and living (temp) in South Korea. I am thinking about bringing my car over from the US or buy a new car to bring over. Is there tax issues with this?

  1. you have that much money to ship it over? I think buying a car in korea then selling it when you leave would probably be the cheapest... ive heard that shipping a car from us to asia can cost anywhere from 5-10 k! its insane... just buy car in korea and sell when u leave.

  2. I agree with Chris (Seung Sun).  It cost me 3k to ship my car from the U.S. mainland to Hawaii.  To get your car to Korea you'd be looking at 6-10k minimum.  That's not to mention taxes, licensing, safety inspections, satisfying different emission standards and so on.

Just buy a car here.  There are plenty.

  3. probably. if you put stuff in the car you pay more.
