Question:

Bringing a musical instrument abroad?

by  |  earlier

Im lucky enough to be travelling to America for a month in July. However, I need to bring my clarinet with me.

Does anyone know the rules/regulations that involve bringing instruments on an aeroplane. Can I carry it on in one hand, and hand luggage in the other hand.

Or do I have to put it into my hand luggage?

Or do I have to pack it into my suitcase?

Thank you =]

  1. Went to France in May with a guitar and a mandolin.  I was able to take them on board, even though I have a carry on as well.

  2. I would insist on bringing it in your hand luggage, since it is fragile.

  3. LOL I love lizard's answer the best - still on the floor laughing!

  4. The airport by-laws state that clarinets need to be towed behind all comercial aircraft

  5. Depends who you fly with.  Some will let you take two pieces of hand luggage, others only one, check with you carrier.  And crawl if necessary.

  6. Musician's Union have ensured you are aloud to take a musical instrument as well as your main luggage.  You can even take this on as hand luggage.
