Question:

Bringing your own bags?

Does anyone else find they are met with resistance/hostility when you bring your own bags to Wal-Mart?

Every time I go in there, I bring my own bags. I hate plastic. I hate paper. I hate Wal-Mart, too.

The cashiers are rude/put out/frustrated at the least when I announce I have my own bags - even though Wal-Mart sells the d**n things two feet from the checkout lane.

I got in yet ANOTHER argument today for daring to use my own bags in the self-check (which i only used to escape the surly *** cashiers)

What do you guys do?

  1. Let me understand: You hate Walmart, yet you continue to shop there?

I think maybe you have an attitude problem. No offense (I don't even know you) but you come off as a very angry person.

It seems an awful waste of energy to be so angry at these cashiers. Most are women just trying to earn a meager living and they are told to do something a certain way in their training and you disrupt them.

I understand your reasoning behind using the cloth bags instead of the plastic ones, even though I strongly disagree with doing so, from an environmental perspective, since a lot of land is required to grow all the cotton to make the bags, and huge equipment burning lots of gas and diesel is used to harvest the cotton, and giant mills, churning out tons of water and air pollution is required to make and dye the cloth that those bags consist of, and plastic bags are so useful for so many things once the groceries, etc. are taken out of them.

I don't understand why you people don't simply bring the plastic bags they give you back to the store and use THOSE again?

  2. LOL! wow we r a lot in common! rofl!  I do the same exact thing and i get the same exact response. But now, I dont at that particular Wal Mart because  i `had a "talk" with the manager. rofl

take care, and its better 2 bring your own bags anyway cuz then u hurt the environment one less of a plastic bag at  a time! lol

  3. well dont stop taking your bags, everyones always bloody moaning nowadays about helping to save the environment, they shouldn't bloody moan when someone tries to help. silly c***s

  4. The guy next door brings his bag to Walmart all of the time. In fact she does most of the shopping.

  5. Now I would bring my own bags just to be a general pain in the @ss. I don't give two s**+ts about the earth, and I think we should just pave the world, and put up gas stations every 60 miles or so. (Hey, I need f*ckin' snacks)...

...but seriously, those people are there to take your money, and service the customer, and if one person going thru their line throws off their ring-up count /hr, then they need to learn to be faster, and if they b***h about it, to be an extra large pain in the @ss, I go and make the CSM's day a living h**l as I berate her, her family, and that she's a horrible human being to work for such an evil corporate overlord like walmart.

I remember when Walmart was a decent and good company, to offer a decent product at a competitive price, and then they got greedy. Sam is spinning in his grave....partially because he's upset about what his company has become, and the other part to avoid all the urine that trickles down from people p*ssing on his grave.

  6. What do I do? I don't shop at Wal-Mart. I patronize locally owned businesses.

  7. I so kno how you feel, some are so rude, talking on the phone and stuff.

Not using bags help the enviroment, tell them that

  8. report there as ses  for being rude my mom buys those reusable bags but never brings them to the stores

  9. GOOD for you !  I agree with you 100 %

I am surprised at how they look at me when I say I don't need, and don't want a plastic bag !  Sometimes its so stupid, someone buys a jug of windshield washer, a jug with an easy-carry handle, and they still put it in a stupid plastic bag,  just to carry it to their car parked a few metres from the front door.

  10. hey, those cashiers are so dumb!

Bring your own bags are the best thing to do! You are absolutely doing lots for the environment. If only everyone is like you, we probably won't have so many landfill site problems.

Never mind those cashiers. What they should do it praise you for it.

  11. I am from UK but live in Dubai here they didnt have reusable bags but now they have, I brought my own from the uk some time ago including cold bags from Waitrose & Tescos, here no store has ever questioned me except for the cashier to say you have your own bags sir then tells the packer i have

  12. I use my bags everywhere including the mall and the farmers market. I don't shop at Walmart often, and haven't had a problem. My sister shops there all the time and she says she usually gets some resistance.

I would take a moment next time I go into the store and talk to a manager and let her know this seems to be a Walmart problem. Basically all it will take is a simple mention in their next team metting to get most cashiers to go with the flow.

  13. It sounds as though we are a little ahead of you in the "bring your own bag" campaign in England.

The big supermarkets give you extra points if you bring your own bags and quite a few charge for every new bag you use at the checkout.

We always took our own bags when going shopping when I was first married - when and from where did the unlimited free plastic bag idea creep in?

Mind you, I do find them useful for lining the kitchen bin, for the cat litter and taking taking garden rubbish to the recyling centre.

  14. i never go to walmart, but i totally understand! i bring my own bags and sometimes the cashiers act almost mad about it. once i even had to bag my own groceries - that might not have been because i had my own bags, but i think it was. so, i totally understand!

  15. The cashiers at Walmart are miserable because their immediate bosses are all a******s. I've never met a customer service manager there who was nice.

Good for you for using your own bags.  I need to do this myself.  As for them wanting to argue with you, I would take it up with management. You're not doing anything wrong, they are just being bitchy and lazy.

And stop shopping at Wal-mart!  That is the downfall of society! lol

  16. i find that some what funny; that they would get upset when you bring your own bags especially when they sell them. you would think that you are also saving wal-mart some money by using your own at the same time helping the environment.

  17. I think you're doing a great contribution to the betterment of our environment. I don't think there's a law against using your own bag. What if you say back, "if the paper/plastic bag you sell breaks would you take the responsibility of replacing the damaged goods?" Just thinking about this scenario makes my blood pressure go up :D

In Japan, they encourage buyers to use their own bags.

  18. Are you really sure it's because you brought your own bag?  Maybe they're having a bad day or are sour people anyway, or (don't take this wrong) maybe they read your announcement that you had your own bag the wrong way.  I've noticed that at some of the "traditional" stores it catches them off guard and they have to stop and turn off the auto-pilot to think about it, but no one's been rude to me specifically because I brought my own bag, although I do see bad bad bad cutomer service a lot.

  19. i just tell them 2 save the earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and tell them 2 give me a discount!

  20. Good for you, I don't shop at Wal-mart they are probably rude because of the crappy wage they get paid
