Question:

Brining prescription meds into Canada...?

I suggested to my doctor a new medication I'd like to try but she was unsure if it was available in Canada yet. Has anyone or does anyone know if I could get the prescription filled in the states and bring it back here? Or would that be like smuggling?

  1. This is kind of difficult to get, and expensive   But I don't think it is like smuggling.  The only exception is maybe if it is pain medication not approved in Canada.

However, you would probably have to have a US doctor prescribe them to pick up at a US pharmacy.  I know prescriptions at a Canadian pharmacy require a Canadian doctor - and mail order prescription companies have a doctor on staff to review and sign prescriptions coming from the US.  So, you will have to pay for a doctor visit, that technically has a low chance of being covered by any type of travel medical insurance as it is for a preexisting condition known before your trip.

  2. You can take prescription medications across borders as long as you keep the meds in the container(s) from the pharmacy.
