Sabine Lisicki capsizes Lucie Safarova
German superstar, Sabine Lisicki, outfoxed the 17th ranked Czech, Lucie Safarova, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to book a spot in the second round of the Brisbane International on Monday. The 37th ranked German
clinched the victory in just over an hour and 28 minutes at the hard courts of Pat Rafter Arena, Brisbane. Lisicki will go head-to-head against the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, in round two.
Alize Cornet narrowly escapes upset against Bojana Bobusic
Bojana Bobusic, ranked 331st in the world, came near to a major upset of the day when she won the opening set and stayed toe-to-toe for the most part of the second phase against the 44th ranked Alize Cornet.
The Frenchwoman lost the opening set 2-6 but played well to survive against the local qualifier in the following two phases; winning them 6-3 and 6-1 respectively. Cornet plays the in-form Serena Williams in the second round.

2012 French Open finalist, Sara Errani, started the new season with a commanding victory over the 106th ranked Russian, Olga Puchkova, on Monday. She cleared the first obstacle at the hard courts of Brisbane in straight
sets 6-1, 6-3 and booked a date with Daniela Hantuchova for a quarter-final spot.
Caroline Wozniacki loses to Ksenia Pervak
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, lost the first match of the new season at the hands of the 103rd ranked Kazakh qualifier, Ksenia Pervak, at Brisbane. She started off in flying fashion by winning the opening
set 6-2 but failed to retain the momentum; lost the following two sets 3-6 and 6(1)-7 respectively. Pervak will lock horns against Urszula Radwanska for shot at the quarter-final spot.
Sloane Stephens upsets Dominika Cibulkova
World number 15, Dominika Cibulkova, lost in the opening match of her new season campaign at the Brisbane International on Monday. She was the victim to the onslaught of the 19-year-old American, Sloane Stephens, who rounded off
the encounter in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Monica Puig beats Olivia Rogowska
Qualifier from Puerto Rico, Monica Puig, shocked the crowd by dispatching a superior ranked local wildcard entrant, Olivia Rogowska, in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. She is scheduled to take on the fourth seed Angelique Kerber in the
second round of the Brisbane International on Tuesday.
