Brisbane International: Andy Roddick moves ahead
America’s number 1 player Andrew “Andy” Roddick has started 2011 in top form, showing off his confidence and skill set at the Brisbane International Tennis Tournament in Australia.
He defeated a local player Marinko Matosevic 6-3, 6-2 to proceed further in the tournament.
The tennis pro showed remarkable finesse and curved cannon ball serves towards his opponent. He also managed to hold service games with comfort and ease. After a series of serves, Roddick took his chance and broke service; partly due to his own prowess,
and partly due to the high number of errors made by his opponent Matosevic. Roddick took the first set from Matosevic comfortably, 6-3.
The second set followed the same pattern, with Andy Roddick racing to a 5-0 lead with aggressive serves and quick footwork. It seemed as if the Australian local was little more than a spectator as Roddick placed his shots and groundstrokes with overwhelming
accuracy. Matosevic seemed to reassert himself by taking two games consecutively and took the set score to 2-5.
However, Roddick quickly shattered any hopes Matosevic may have had for success in the tournament. He held serve and proceeded to destroy his opponent with one more game to close the set and match.
Defending champion of the tournament Andy Roddick has moved ahead in the tournament with this win. He managed to get 62 per cent of his first serves in. He also collected a remarkable 79 per cent of his points on first serves.
In other news at the courts of Brisbane, Michael Berrer defeated Dudi Sela in three sets to win the match 1-6, 7-6 and 6-2. Sela was unable to win the match despite firing 16 aces during the match.
In another match, Lukasz Kubot of Poland breezed past Daniel Brands in straight sets. He won 6-2, 6-2.
