Do you think brisbane is up to holding the 2024 olympics?

I think Brisbane could manage to stage a good Olympics some time in the future, but 2024 would be a bit soon. The government would need to make some very major improvements to our public transport system starting NOW and the expense would be horrendous as our PT system is in such a pitiful state at present with no real plans to improve it, but an Olympics would be just the impetus needed to get things rolling to the enormous benefit of the city for the future.

Let's be realistic though and accept that it's not going to happen for a lot longer than 16 years. Olympics are granted only 7 or 8 years out from when they're to be held, and that wouldn't be nearly long enough for Brisbane to add the necessary infrastructure -  we would never win a bid if it wasn't already in place.

I don't see why not.

I mean, I was a bit pessimistic that China would manage, but they did a great job.

I think the Olympics would be the incentive that the Qld government needs to get the Brisbane infrastructure in order - especially the public transport and that awful airport interchange nightmare!

Where they would build the Olympic venues???? Now that's a whole new question!!

Defiantly Not! I was driving to the City today to go to The Internation Boat show at the convention centre, and i t was so hectic..on a sunday! I couldnt believe it. The road are very poor quality. That Bligh woman just doesnt do it for me, i cant stand her! The locals cant drive from suburbia to city, how are tourist going to get around.

I think we should hold it, simply because it would force the government into doing something to fix the horrible public transport problems, bad roads, lack of infrastructure, etc. That has got to be a plus. We can do whatever we put our minds to, and if we can have the entire world visit us in just a few years time, what more inspiration do you need to make the city the best it can be?
