Bristol City cruise past Watford – npower Football League Championship match update
Bristol City beat Watford 3-1 in an npower Championship encounter at Vicarage Road stadium on Tuesday. Nicky Maynard, Marvin Elliot and Brett Pitman scored in an easy win for the Robins. Don Cowie scored the only goal of the game for the hosts.
Malky Mackay made only one change to his starting line-up that drew 1-1 against Reading last weekend. Matthew Whichelow was replaced with Ross Jenkins in the midfield. Keith Millen made two changes to his side that lost 2-1 to Leicester City last weekend.
Lewin Nayatanga and Nicky Maynard replaced Jamie McAllister and Andy Keogh respectively.
The first half started in lively fashion and the hosts came extremely close to scoring in the second minute. Adam Thompson’s header from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Graham’s corner went just whiskers away from the right post. The hosts dominated the possession in the opening
15 minutes and created lot of openings. Watford opened the scoring in the 18th minute and deservedly so. Cowie met Graham’s cross from the left and struck his shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 1-0 for the hosts. The visitors
looked unsettled in the midfield as they conceded cheap free kicks to the opposition. Just after the half hour mark, Bristol gained some composure. Martyn Woolford did the hard work from the right wing and swung in a cross which was slammed into the bottom
corner by Maynard, to make it 1-1. The goal did a lot of good to the morale of the visitors and they began to look sharper and threatened the Watford goal on a regular basis. After a flurry of chances wasted by both teams, they went into the half with a 1-1
score line.
The second half promised more excitement as both teams searched for a winner. The second period started slowly as both sides struggle to match the pace of the first half. The two sides did not capitalise on the possession for long periods and made some ragged
challenges in the midfield. The visitors took the lead in the 68th minute as Elliot headed in from close range to David Clarkson’s cross to make it 2-1 for Bristol. The game dried up immediately after the goal as the visitors played deep inside
their half and countered the hosts with relative ease. When it looked like Bristol were cruising to a win, they doubled their lead before stoppage time. Albert Adomah broke from the right wing and Brett Pitman scored a scorcher of a goal from a tight angle
to hand Bristol three points for the win.
Watford will play their next match against Doncaster http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 on 26th February, while Bristol play Scunthorpe United the same day.
