What kind of oppressive government can find the money for big brother cameras but not the funds for vital medical equipment and medicines?

  1. why do you need to be worried about CCTV if you are not committing crime?! They are there to hopefully help out if someone does commit crime. IMO, people against them are likely to have something to hide....

  2. I guess that is an unfortunate show of degenerating society. Fair enough the MRI scanners are more important but then again is it the governments fault or the people who commit crime? I'm not really one to stand up for the government in general but at the same time society has degenerated so much of late that every area now needs more funding. Schools are stretched to their limits with students who constantly rebel and are a danger to the teachers who try to control them. Crime has increased and so have mindless attacks on innocent civilians and hospitals resourses are streched to breakin point. Something has to give and if the hospitals did receive MRI scanners and CCTV cameras were scrapped then attacks in the streets would go unoticed. The government has failed in the past which has put us in this position for the future. Bad family values, moral decline and too many politically correct views have caused the terrible state of society. Don't hit your children, there is no problem with divorce if you're not in love and my child has ADD there is no way to control him. These are a few comments that show what society has become. Fair enough, we all make mistakes but people have to learn to fullfill the responsibilties of their actions instead of walking away and hoping someone else will deal with it. If the government would have clamped down when things started going wrong there would be no problem. Unfortunately this is now a problem which can't be solved without either a turn around of thought from every person in the country or the deaths of a lot of people. I think that the latter is a more probably future scenario as eventually people will get fed up and take the law into their own hands.

  3. Well we have one at Milton Keynes General

But I'm not sure if it counts as he was brought by the citzens of Milton Keynes after three years of fundraising...

  4. Who's watching the watchers?

  5. not eben a viable comparison mri is more running costs

and the camera do prevent and catch a lot of moneys worth of crime

the only people i ve ever seem object to cctv are people with secrets and shady lives to hide

  6. The Ghost has the correct answer (and prob thinks I am following them around!)

  7. Truth is, crime usually appears higher up the loist of people's priorities when voting.

I agree with you that its all wrong, but politicians do what gets them voted, and providing security (or at least appearing to) is deemed more important to the electorate.

  8. And your point is?

  9. 4 mil and one check your facts

  10. I suspect spy cameras are much cheaper to buy and run than MRI scanners. On this page the cost is £1,833,000!!! http://www.bhf.org.uk/helping/index.asp?...

And most spy cameras are installed by individuals outside their home, or small shop owners. They are not all run by Government!

  11. how are the two related???? local councils buy the CCTV cameras and Hospitals buy the MRI scanners? its up to both what they spend the money they are given by the gov on!

  12. What a wishy wshy load of replies - so British.  Not one of you has asked who watches the cameras.  I know someone who works in such a place...it is stated that they are ineffectual. Others state there are loads of cams but many are privately owned. Did not think we are condsidering here in our argument the ones watching the garden path or the car at night. I thought we were talking about all gov.uk cameras.

I think the money could be better spent on acual police men walking the streets and not on private companies sitting in front of a few screens with endless cups of tea and digestive biscuits.....And d**n it, why should we have our every movement logged.  do you really like to know that some ignorant sod is laughing at you when you have to hitch up your knickers in the street because the elastic is on the way out? Well - do you?

  13. Watching our every move but not actually reducing any crime.

I think actually these CCTV figures are hyped up. If there were 4million spy cameras watching us, all the druggies and pick pockets would be rounded up in one day.

It's a lie, and elaborate one to make you think "you are being watched" Yes the cameras are there, but do they actually work? I think not.

  14. good point

  15. Spy cameras make money, MRI scanners don't. Unfortunately, the govt see spy cameras as a cash cow, but MRI scanners cost too much.

The Ghost is missing the point. The money comes from the same taxpayers, that's you and me.

  16. I can live with out CCTV cameras but the whole point is can our women live without MRI scanners ? how many of our love one`s would be treated if scanners are not made readily available ? more could be had if the administration an administers were culled to an acceptable level so then the cash would be put back in hospitals at the point were it`s most needed.UK

  17. Your government and council has not paid for all of these cameras.  The one is shops and malls etc are privately funded.

Any way only a few years ago you lot were crying out for more CCTV.  Why not just face facts if you and your family stopped breaking the law we would all be better off.

It all begins and ends with YOU!!
