British Airways and Qantas take Ashes rivalry to the skies
England’s British Airways and Australia’s Qantas are heating up the Ashes battle with a new marketing campaign.
They are seeking the fifth and final Ashes Test as a means of milking the last promotional tact as the Airlines have joined to offer a discount on the price of an economy fare.
This unique campaign will be based upon the highest single innings total of each side in the ongoing fifth Test match at Sydney. The team scoring the highest runs will help their supporters to have a chance of getting the highest discount on their fare from Sydney to London.
The new marketing stint is known as the “Run Out Sale.” The price of the tickets will be entirely based on the Sydney Test match score.
For example if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s highest innings score is 310, then Qantas’ Sydney to London flight fare will be around AUD $1,810 ($2,120 - $310).
Similarly, if England’s highest innings score is 348, then British Airways will offer that amount off its equivalent fare for a flight from Sydney to London.
“England and Australia always battle hard on the cricket field,” Nicole Backo, the Regional Commercial Manager of BA stated.
Both the official airlines of the two respective countries have started the campaign in full force as they are urging the fans to cheer for their countries in order to compel them to score a big total.
“This special fare from British Airways and Qantas is sure to get the crowds cheering for their team louder than ever,” Backo said.
The airlines are offering only 250 tickets each. Bookings will commence from 8 January 2011 midday and will end a day later.
Qantas is offering this discount until May 2011, but will only allow it on specific flights. The BA could potentially offer a big discount if England continue to dominate the batting in the Sydney Test.
England are leading the series 2-1. They have already retained the Ashes but are looking for a series win in the fifth and final Ashes Test. They only need to draw the match to ensure that.
