British Championship Open 2012 Day 1: Adam Scott in the lead
The British Championship Open 2012 is in full swing. The players are fighting for the prestigious Claret Jug. The venue for this major event is the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course.
After the first day, Australian professional golfer Adam Scott is on top of the leaderboard. Scott had a magnificent first day, as he was successful to surprise everyone with his first round 64.
Scott had an average start and scored his first bogey of the match on the third hole. After the bogey his game took a turn. He carded three birdies on the next four holes, on the fourth, sixth and seventh. After the first nine, he was two-under par.
His back nine was even better. He carded three consecutive birdies starting from the eleventh. After another par on the fourteenth, he scored two more birdies. The 32-year-old completed his day with a bogey on the eighteenth.
After round one at the Lytham, he said, “I know there's never been a 62 and when I was waiting to use the bathroom going to the 17th tee I did a look at the leader-board and realised it was a par-70”.
“I also probably then realised that I wasn't going to be the guy to shoot 62. It's one of those things that you don't want to go through your mind, thinking about your final score and stuff like that. So I got rid of that quickly and got on to playing the
17th, but unfortunately dropped one up the last,” he added.
Scott ended his day with a magnificent six-under par. He was one shot clear of the second position of Nicolas Colsaerts, Paul Lawrie and Zach Johnson. The fifth position was occupied by Brandt Snedeker. He finished the day with four-under par.
Till now the Australian golfer has not been able to bag any major trophies. His best performance was when he finished as the runner-up in last year’s Masters.
This year, he needs to concentrate on his game and stay consistent in the three days to come. He has a good opportunity, he just needs to see it till the end.
